Revolutionary ArbOS 20 Atlas Decreases Ethereum Layer 2 Transaction Fees

Offchain Labs has recently unveiled ArbOS 20, also known as ‘Atlas,’ a groundbreaking development set to have a significant impact on Ethereum Layer 2 transaction costs. This innovative update is poised to reshape the blockchain landscape by reducing transaction expenses on Arbitrum, thereby enhancing user experience and fostering a more cost-effective ecosystem.

The Advantages of ArbOS 20 Atlas

ArbOS 20 introduces a new Arbitrum ecosystem that supports Ethereum following the Dencun upgrade. By utilizing data storage in “blobs” instead of costly call data, the Layer 2 blockchain achieves enhanced cost efficiency, paving the way for a more sustainable and economical transaction model.

Furthermore, ArbOS integrates EVM+ and Stylus, empowering developers to execute applications and use cases seamlessly. This critical improvement addresses the challenges faced on Arbitrum, particularly in high-traffic sectors such as DeFi, Gaming, and SocialFi.

With the adoption of Blobs in Arbitrum chains, a new realm of transaction economics emerges, enabling transient and cost-effective data storage. Blobs store data off-chain, rendering it inaccessible after three weeks, contrasting with traditional call data that is preserved indefinitely in the database.

Enhanced Security and Usability

Notably, ArbOS Atlas incorporates EIP-6780 support, aligning the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with Arbitrum’s security protocols. This alignment streamlines future EVM enhancements, ensuring a cohesive and secure infrastructure for development initiatives. Prysm’s introduction of an EIP-4844 draft on the L1 side complements this collaborative effort, bolstering network security and overall design efficiency.

The collaborative effort between the Prysm client and Arbitrum Nitro teams played a pivotal role in shaping ArbOS Atlas. Through consensus layer implementations and rigorous specification processes, Ethereum researchers and client teams continue to refine and optimize the blockchain ecosystem, enhancing scalability and usability.

Empowering Developers and Users

Steven Goldfeder, CEO and Co-Founder of Offchain Labs, underscores the transformative impact of ArbOS Atlas on Ethereum’s usability and accessibility, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to enhancing the overall Ethereum experience for users and the cryptocurrency community.

ArbOS 20 Atlas delivers a substantial reduction in L2 base fees and L1 surplus fees, from 0.1 gwei to 0.01 gwei, and 2 gwei to 0, respectively. This streamlined fee structure fosters a more cost-effective environment for developers and users, offering functional enhancements for Arbitrum transactions and facilitating seamless integration of additional rollups.

Offchain Labs: Pioneering Ethereum Scalability Solutions

Offchain Labs is at the forefront of Ethereum scalability solutions, striving to empower developers, businesses, and individuals to leverage Ethereum’s capabilities and drive industry innovation. With a diverse product portfolio encompassing Stylus, Arbitrum, and Prysm, the organization remains committed to introducing novel concepts and enhancing blockchain functionality to meet the evolving needs of the community.
