Ottawa’s Professional Women’s Hockey League Team Makes Trades to Enhance Roster

The Ottawa’s Professional Women’s Hockey League team underwent significant changes on Monday’s trade deadline to strengthen its roster. These moves include the acquisition of forward Tereza Vanisova from Montreal in exchange for defender Amanda Boulier. Furthermore, Ottawa received Shiann Darkangelo from Boston in exchange for forward Lexie Adzija and the rights to forward Caitrin Lonergan.

Vanisova, a 28-year-old Czech, showcased promising performance with two goals and eight assists in 17 games for Montreal before transitioning to Ottawa. She was initially drafted by Montreal in the seventh round and signed a lucrative two-year contract. Notably, Vanisova is set to represent Czechia at the upcoming women’s world championship in Utica, N.Y., marking her seventh appearance in this prestigious tournament.

Notable Player Transfers and Contributions

Ottawa’s head coach Carla MacLeod, who also serves as Czechia’s coach, has successfully guided her team to consecutive bronze medals. Moreover, Amanda Boulier, a 30-year-old from Watertown, Conn., contributed significantly to Ottawa’s defense, ranking third in production with a goal and five assists in 17 games.

Lexie Adzija, a promising 23-year-old forward from St. Thomas, Ont., made her mark in Ottawa with an impressive five-game point streak at the start of her professional career. She accumulated a total of eight points, comprising five goals and three assists, in 17 games. Adzija’s background includes captaining Quinnipiac University’s Bobcats during the 2022-23 season.

Caitrin Lonergan, a 26-year-old from Roslindale, Mass., garnered attention for her remarkable achievements as a two-time Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist. Although she did not sign with Ottawa after being selected in the draft, Lonergan demonstrated her prowess during the 2022-23 season with the Connecticut Whale, amassing 18 points in 23 games.

Shiann Darkangelo, a seasoned player with 8 years of professional experience, joined Ottawa from Boston. The 30-year-old from Brighton, Mich., brought valuable experience, having served as captain of the Toronto Six in the PHF. Darkangelo’s notable offensive prowess was evident during the 2022-23 season, where she secured 25 points in 24 games and led her team to an Isobel Cup championship.
