HBO Cancels ‘Our Flag Means Death’ After Second Season

In January, HBO made the difficult decision to cancel the series ‘Our Flag Means Death’ after its second season, which premiered and concluded in October. As is often the case with canceled shows, a fan campaign emerged in an attempt to convince HBO to renew the show. Creator David Jenkins expressed his determination to find another platform that would be receptive to a comedy centered around gay pirates.

However, hopes for a revival were dashed when Jenkins took to Instagram to announce that ‘Our Flag Means Death’ would not be picked up by another network or streamer. He expressed his gratitude to the fans for their efforts, which gained recognition across the industry. Jenkins acknowledged the fundraising initiatives that allowed for billboards to be displayed in New York and London, offering support to the cast and crew during this challenging time.

Jenkins bid farewell to the show, stating, “We’ve reached the end of the road, at least as far as this sweet show is concerned.” Despite the disappointment, he emphasized that the love and bond shared by the cast and crew would endure, leaving the possibility of future collaborations open.

Continued Trend of Cancellations at HBO

‘Our Flag Means Death’ joins a list of recently canceled shows at HBO, including ‘Rap Sh!t’ and ‘The Flight Attendant’. Notably, the network also chose to end ‘Westworld’ after four seasons, surprising both the cast and crew who were gearing up for a fifth season. These decisions come amidst a larger shift within its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, which recently announced the shutdown of media company Rooster Teeth and the delisting of titles published by Adult Swim Games.
