Pat McAfee’s Discovery of Winnipeg
Pat McAfee, the renowned host of The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN, recently shared his experience of discovering Winnipeg during a Stanley Cup playoff game. Despite his admission that he couldn’t pinpoint the city on a map, he was captivated by the passion of Winnipeg Jets fans during their thrilling 7-6 victory.
Impressed by Winnipeg’s Fan Support
McAfee was particularly impressed by the sight of fans waving white towels in a tradition known as “The White Out,” a cherished custom that has been a staple of Jets games since the late 1980s. In awe of the energy and devotion displayed by the crowd, McAfee couldn’t help but acknowledge the fervor of Winnipeg supporters.
During his show, McAfee humorously admitted, “If there was an empty map of Canada and they said, ‘Pat, go ahead and pin this particular whatever, mountie, a horse, pin this horse … and it’s big so there’s a lot of different options … I could not guess, for the life of me, where the hell it is. But I do know it’s a place I’d like to be sometime.”
An Invitation from the Winnipeg Jets
In response to McAfee’s musings, the Winnipeg Jets took to Twitter to extend a warm invitation to the curious host. They offered to assist McAfee in locating Winnipeg, expressing their gratitude for his admiration of their hometown.
During a break on his show, McAfee shared his newfound geographical knowledge, revealing, “I thought it was way lefter, but I’ve learned that Winnipeg is above Minnesota and North Dakota.” Despite his initial uncertainty, McAfee’s genuine interest in Winnipeg and its enthusiastic fan base became evident throughout his engaging commentary.
