According to insider information, the new contract boasts a base value of $58 million but could potentially reach up to $66 million, with an impressive $32 million guaranteed. This substantial deal translates to an average annual value of $14.5 million for Dugger.
It is worth noting that Dugger had been assigned the transition tag by the team just last month, effectively limiting his options in free agency. Under this designation, he stood to earn $13.8 million for the upcoming season, equivalent to the average salary of the top 10 players in his position.
Uncommon Move Reflects Patriots’ Commitment to Dugger
The decision to lock in such a significant extension for Dugger aligns with the Patriots’ ethos of valuing homegrown talent nurtured within their organization. Head coach Jerod Mayo and scouting director Eliot Wolf are actively working to foster a culture that prioritizes rewarding players drafted and cultivated by the team.
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-2 and weighing 222 pounds, Dugger entered the NFL fold as a second-round pick for the Patriots in 2020. Since then, he has been a consistent presence on the field, participating in 61 regular-season games with 52 starts to his name. Dugger, drafted at No. 37, was New England’s highest selection that year, following a strategic move to trade out of the initial round.
