Upcoming Releases on Peacock
If you missed the opportunity to watch Night Swim or Lisa Frankenstein during their original screenings, fear not. These two films from Universal Pictures are making their way to Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, within the next two weeks. Lisa Frankenstein is scheduled to be available starting on Friday, March 29, followed by the arrival of Night Swim on April 5.
Night Swim: A Closer Look
Night Swim premiered on January 5 and is an adaptation of a 2014 short film created by director Bryce McGuire and Rod Blackhurst. The storyline revolves around a suburban family settling into a new home that features a peculiar swimming pool in the backyard. Strange occurrences begin happening, particularly to the kids when they spend time in or around the pool, and the father’s behavior becomes increasingly unsettling. Despite facing some critical reviews, the film performed impressively at the box office, raking in $53.8 million against a $15 million budget.
The Tale of Lisa Frankenstein
On the other hand, Lisa Frankenstein premiered on February 9, with an intriguing script penned by Diablo Cody, known for her work on “Jennifer’s Body.” The movie marks the directorial debut of Zelda Williams, renowned for her voice acting role as Kuvira in “Legend of Korra.” Set in the late ’80s, the film follows Kathryn Newton portraying a goth girl who unintentionally revives a Victorian-era corpse, played by Cole Sprouse, known as the Creature. As their bond deepens, they embark on a spree of gruesome acts, harvesting body parts from their victims to enhance the Creature’s appearance. Despite receiving a mix of reviews, the film struggled to make an impact at the box office, generating only $9.9 million against a $13 million budget and transitioning quickly to video-on-demand platforms after its theatrical run.
The addition of both Night Swim and Lisa Frankenstein to Peacock’s library over the next fortnight presents an opportunity for viewers who may prefer a change from the grandeur of films like “Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire” and “Monkey Man.” For those who have already seen these films, we welcome your feedback and opinions in the comments section below.
