Radiant Black Series Expands to Audiobook Format
Since its inception in 2021, Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa’s Radiant Black has emerged as one of Image Comics’ standout titles, captivating readers with its rich storytelling and vibrant characters. With the series now boasting a diverse universe populated by equally intriguing individuals helming their own narratives, the question arises: what lies ahead for the original series that sparked it all?
Transitioning to a New Medium
Answering this query, Higgins recently announced during the C2E2 panel for the Massive-Verse that Radiant Black’s first six issues will be transformed into an audiobook format. As part of this endeavor, he will be responsible for both writing and directing the inaugural volume. This adaptation marks the beginning of what promises to be a series of offerings stemming from Image Comics and Higgins’ Black Market Collective imprint.
A notable casting choice for this audiobook involves the characters Nathan Burnett and Marshall Ward, portrayed by Rider Strong and Will Friedle, respectively. Fans of the ’90s will appreciate the casting of these two actors, who previously worked together on Boy Meets World. Friedle previously lent his voice to Marshall in a Radiant Black short film released in 2022 and expressed enthusiasm for revisiting the character in this new capacity. Similarly, Strong eagerly took on the opportunity to delve deeper into Nathan and Marshall’s intertwined journey.
Embracing New Frontiers
In a statement addressing the project, Higgins emphasized the team’s commitment to engaging with readers and audiences through innovative mediums, thereby enhancing the immersive experience of Radiant Black and the Massive-Verse. Leveraging his background as a director, former sound editor, and self-professed audio enthusiast, Higgins expressed profound excitement for the creative possibilities presented by the audiobook format. He teased the involvement of a full voice cast and the diverse narrative avenues that this medium opens up.
