Las Vegas Raiders to Sign Michael Gallup to One-Year Deal

The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly set to sign former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup to a one-year contract worth up to $3 million, according to sources familiar with the situation as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler.

This impending move is noteworthy given the Raiders’ already formidable receiving corps, which includes star receiver Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, tight ends Michael Mayer, Harrison Bryant, and Brock Bowers.

Raiders’ Impressive Offensive Weapons

Adams, a three-time first-team All-Pro receiver, has consistently put up impressive numbers, with at least 100 receptions in five of his last six seasons. Meyers is coming off a career-high 8 touchdown catches in the previous season, while Tucker demonstrated his big-play ability by averaging 17.4 yards per catch as a rookie in 2023.

The trio of talented tight ends adds another dimension to the Raiders’ passing attack. Mayer, a promising rookie, showed potential with 27 receptions for 304 yards and 2 touchdowns last season. Bryant, a seasoned veteran, joined the team in March after a productive tenure with the Cleveland Browns. Bowers, a first-round draft pick, brings impressive college stats to the table, with 175 catches for 2,537 yards and 26 touchdowns in three years at Georgia.

Despite the wealth of talent already present, the Raiders are making a strategic move to bolster their receiving corps by bringing in Gallup, who was released by the Cowboys in March to free up salary cap space. Gallup, 28, struggled to regain top form following a left knee injury in 2021 but offers experience and a solid track record as a reliable pass catcher.

Raiders’ Flexibility and Strategic Planning

Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco emphasized the team’s versatility in utilizing multiple receivers effectively, noting the importance of having depth and additional options in the passing game. Despite already having talented pass catchers on the roster, the addition of Gallup provides another impactful weapon for the offense.

Gallup’s best season came in 2019 when he recorded 66 catches for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns. With a total of 266 receptions for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns in his career, Gallup brings a wealth of experience and playmaking ability to the Raiders’ roster.

As the Raiders continue to refine their roster and make strategic moves to strengthen their team, the addition of Michael Gallup adds another layer of depth and talent to an already formidable offensive unit.
