Xbox Gameplay Recording Settings

When it comes to recording gameplay on your Xbox, the capability to capture up to 4K resolution is at your fingertips. However, to ensure you are recording at the optimal resolution, it is necessary to navigate through the settings. Begin by accessing the Preferences section and then proceed to Capture & share. Within this menu, you have the flexibility to customize various settings for capturing content, although there may be limitations when attempting to utilize full 4K HDR recording.

Under the game clips settings, you can modify the duration to allow up to 30 seconds of after-action recording in 4K HDR quality. Alternatively, at a lower resolution of 720p, you can extend the recording time to up to 3 minutes post-gameplay. Moreover, you have the option to configure automatic uploads to the Xbox network, encompassing both your Microsoft account and Xbox app, or alternatively, to OneDrive. Additionally, there exists a feature that enables you to remap the Share button, located below the Xbox button in a linear alignment, to either capture a screenshot or record a video.

While playing a game, if you wish to access additional functionalities, simply press the Xbox button and navigate to the Capture & share tab to access screen recording options.

Sharing Gameplay Footage

Sharing your gameplay experiences with friends on Xbox is relatively straightforward; however, a few steps are necessary to make the content accessible on your phone or computer. Within the Capture & share tab, scroll down to locate Recent captures. Select the desired clip that was recently recorded and proceed to hit Upload. This action should facilitate the uploading process to the Xbox Network, with the clips appearing in the app in .MP4 format for convenient sharing.
