Warner Bros. Discovery Announces Final Season of Red vs. Blue as Full-Length Film

Warner Bros. Discovery revealed today that the renowned web series, Red vs. Blue, will come to a close with its 19th season in the form of a feature film.

The film, titled Red vs. Blue: Restoration, is set to premiere on May 7 on Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, and Vudu for purchase, and will be available for rent starting on May 21. This release coincides with the news of Rooster Teeth Productions closing its doors as mandated by its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.

After a lengthy hiatus, Red vs. Blue is making its return to the screen, with co-creator and Rooster Teeth co-founder, Burnie Burns, back in the creative process alongside director Matt Hullum. Reflecting on the project, Hullum expressed, “Red vs. Blue has been a fundamental part of Rooster Teeth’s history, and we take great pride in our collective achievements.”

Burns departed from Rooster Teeth in 2020 but confirmed his involvement last year in crafting the script for the final season/film. According to the official synopsis, Restoration will see the Reds and Blues setting aside their long-standing rivalry to join forces and combat “the universe’s greatest villain” in a bid to save the galaxy. Burns conveyed his excitement, stating, “I am delighted to be back for Red vs. Blue: Restoration, as we draw this astounding twenty-one-year journey to a close with our dedicated fanbase.”

Challenges Faced by Rooster Teeth

Reported by IGN, Warner Bros.’ attempts to offload Rooster Teeth proved unsuccessful, leading to the decision to shut down the production company. This move was precipitated by the evolving landscape of digital media, which has triggered significant shifts in consumer behavior and monetization strategies.

While Roost Podcast Network remains operational for the time being, Warner Bros. is actively seeking potential buyers for its various properties, including the iconic Red vs. Blue series.
