Rookie Quinn Shines as Buffalo Sabres Defeat Philadelphia Flyers

Rookie Jack Quinn showcased his skills by scoring two goals, leading the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-2 victory over the struggling Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night. The Flyers are currently experiencing a downward spiral, losing their sixth consecutive game and slipping to a 0-4-2 record, marking a season-worst skid that puts their playoff hopes in jeopardy. Philadelphia has dropped from third place in the Metropolitan Division to holding the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, tied with the Islanders at 83 points, with New York having played one less game.

On the other hand, the Sabres are keeping their playoff hopes alive with 79 points in the standings.

Rasmus Dahlin made a significant impact by scoring his 19th goal of the season, tying Phil Housley as the Sabres’ only defensemen to achieve such a feat in a single season. Tage Thompson also contributed with a goal and an assist, while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stood tall in net, stopping 32 shots to improve his record to 20-12-1 since taking over as the starting goaltender in late December.

Despite the Flyers’ efforts, Owen Tippett and Noah Cates managed to score for the team, but rookie 27-year-old goalie Ivan Fedotov struggled in his first career NHL start, allowing three goals on the first 12 shots he faced. He finished the game with 15 saves, following his NHL debut as a backup in a previous game against the New York Islanders.

Rangers Prevail Against Red Wings

In another exciting matchup, the New York Rangers outlasted the Detroit Red Wings with a 4-3 win. Led by Chris Kreider’s go-ahead goal on a power play in the third period, the Rangers maintained their position as the top team in the Eastern Conference. Barclay Goodrow stepped up with two goals to double his season total, contributing to the team’s victory. Will Cuylle also found the back of the net, and Jonathan Quick made 30 saves to secure the win. With 108 points in the standings, the Rangers are three points ahead of Boston in the race for home-ice advantage in the playoffs.

Andrew Copp, J.T. Compher, and Dylan Larkin scored for the Red Wings, with David Perron registering two assists. Alex Lyon made 35 saves for Detroit, who are currently tied with Washington, just one point away from the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Hurricanes Stage Comeback Against Capitals

Carolina Hurricanes staged an impressive comeback as they overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat the Washington Capitals 4-2. Sebastian Aho sealed the deal with a tiebreaking power-play goal with less than two minutes left in the game, securing the win for the Hurricanes. Jake Guentzel notched two goals, including an empty-netter, and an assist, while Martin Necas also found the back of the net for Carolina. Jaccob Slavin chipped in with two assists, and Pyotr Kochetkov made 14 saves to help the Hurricanes secure the victory.

Washington’s Alex Ovechkin displayed his scoring prowess by netting two goals in the first period, but it wasn’t enough as the Capitals suffered their fifth consecutive loss, extending their winless streak to five games (0-4-1).
