Doge Runestone Airdrops Tokens Following Bitcoin Ordinals Collection

One month after the successful Bitcoin Ordinals collection, Runestone made headlines by airdropping tokens to eligible wallets. This action was soon followed by a similar move from a Dogecoin Ordinals project, which held its own airdrop this week to commemorate this milestone.

The Doge Runestone airdrop, similar to its Bitcoin counterpart, garnered significant attention. Following the airdrop, a collection of 30,272 Dogecoin NFTs entered the secondary market, boasting a total trading volume of 80,142 DOGE or nearly $15,000 in value. Currently, the floor price for a Doge Runestone stands at 170 DOGE, equivalent to around $32 on the Ordinals Wallet Dogecoin marketplace.

The masterminds behind the Doge Runestone drop, known as Robo AI, expressed their intent to create a DRC-420 protocol on Doginals. This protocol aims to facilitate more advanced forms of Dogecoin-based media. According to a project representative, this endeavor marks a pioneering initiative within the Dogecoin blockchain ecosystem.

Doge Runestone: A New Era of Dogecoin NFTs

Derived from the fervor surrounding Ordinals inscriptions, Doge Runestone draws inspiration from the Runestone collection, which encompassed 112,383 collectibles distributed through a meticulously curated airdrop. Originating in May 2023, the DRC-20 protocol underpins the creation of fungible tokens on the Dogecoin blockchain, enabling seamless and efficient transactions.

In recent times, the Dogecoin landscape has witnessed a surge in Dogecoin-themed NFT projects, with over 150 ventures cropping up as per data sourced from Doginal Explorer. Furthermore, a pseudonymous Dogecoin proponent achieved a noteworthy feat earlier this year by embedding a playable version of the classic video game Doom into the Dogecoin blockchain through the Doginals protocol.

Notably, the influence of Ordinal Inscriptions has transcended beyond the confines of the Dogecoin ecosystem, making inroads into the Ethereum domain with ETHscriptions. Esteemed NFT historian Leonidas, a pivotal figure in the Runestone project on Bitcoin, voiced his appreciation for airdrops that adhere to the principles set forth by the free and fair model established by Runestone.

Leonidas emphasized, “Runestone established a pioneering framework for the equitable distribution of tokens, a model we refer to as the free and fair model. It’s heartening to witness other projects embracing this ethos. The proliferation of airdrops akin to Runestone bodes well for the NFT community.”
