Saga Blockchain Unveils Innovative Airdrop Campaign
Saga, a prominent layer-1 blockchain platform primarily targeting the gaming sector, has recently generated substantial excitement surrounding the imminent launch of its mainnet and token issuance through a play-to-airdrop initiative, rewarding DeFi stakers on diverse networks. Building upon this momentum, Saga has unveiled its latest initiative: the “Power-Level Over 9,000” airdrop campaign.
Creative Partnership Campaign
This campaign, cleverly named after a popular “Dragon Ball Z” reference that has morphed into an internet sensation, was first introduced in April. Saga boasts collaborations with over 100 projects spanning various blockchain ecosystems, encompassing gaming platforms and decentralized applications.
As part of this initiative, hefty bundles of crypto tokens and NFTs from these partner projects will be distributed to SAGA holders who engage in staking activities within the network. Saga recently announced that it has conducted the initial snapshot of SAGA token stakers for the inaugural wave of reward “vaults” earmarked for eligible participants.
The snapshot event, occurring on April 26 at block 262,311 on the Saga network, is set to allocate 3 million SAGA tokens—equivalent to approximately $10.2 million based on the prevailing price of $3.40—to qualifying wallets. Eligible recipients include SAGA users who staked 101 SAGA or more (equivalent to over $340 at the present rate) and those who staked at least 95% of their SAGA genesis airdrop from the mainnet launch on April 9. Additionally, stakers who committed at least 95% of the initial airdrop are entitled to a 4x “loyalty bonus” for holding and staking their tokens.
While the precise distribution timeline for these initial reward vaults remains undisclosed, Saga’s team has indicated that a claims portal will be launched around a week before the distribution window. The preliminary vault distributions will serve to fine-tune eligibility criteria ahead of an expansive series of partner airdrops.
Furthermore, Saga has reported that more than 30 million tokens from the genesis airdrop went unclaimed, prompting the deployment of approximately 10% of the surplus tokens for incentivization purposes. An additional 110 million network tokens have been earmarked for future airdrops and rewards, as outlined in the official blog post.
Strategic Network Expansion
Saga has strategically enlisted over 100 partner projects operating across various blockchain environments to contribute tokens and NFTs for forthcoming distributions. Notable collaborators encompass the Avalanche-based Shrapnel first-person shooter, alongside Ethereum gaming ventures such as The Sandbox and Wilder World.
Positioned as a “layer-1 to launch layer-1s” platform, Saga empowers projects to establish dedicated chains, offering enhanced scalability and flexibility compared to conventional mainnet structures. This approach enables seamless cross-network deployment and leverages Saga’s innovative “chainlets” architecture to bolster application support as needed.
While diversifying beyond gaming applications, Saga underscores its gaming-oriented roots, with approximately 80% of testnet projects dedicated to this domain. Leveraging gaming tournaments as a vehicle for airdrop allocations, the platform has also inaugurated an in-house game publishing division named Saga Origins.
