Record-Breaking Performance by Shane Lowry at PGA Championship
Irish golfer Shane Lowry made history at the PGA Championship, held at Valhalla, by shooting a remarkable 9-under 62 in the third round of the tournament. This outstanding performance allowed Lowry to match a major championship record, as he recorded nine birdies without a single bogey on the scorecard.
Lowry’s flawless round of golf not only placed him in contention for his second major title but also tied the lowest round ever seen in any of the four major tournaments. This achievement added his name to a list of golfers who have managed to shoot a 62 throughout the history of major championships.

Lowry, who previously clinched the British Open title at Royal Portrush in dominant fashion, proved his prowess once again on the golf course. His performance during the PGA Championship marked a significant step towards potentially securing another major title.
Entering the round trailing the leader by eight shots, Lowry showcased exceptional skills by making four consecutive birdies early on in his round. A strong finish on the front nine with a score of 29 propelled Lowry towards an incredible overall round.
Despite a slight cooldown in his game during the back nine, Lowry managed to get to 9 under by sinking a crucial birdie putt on the 17th hole. Although he had an opportunity to secure the lowest round ever in major championship history, a missed birdie putt on the 18th hole left him with a share of the record.
It is worth noting that the 18th hole at Valhalla provided favorable scoring conditions, which Lowry attempted to capitalize on. While narrowly missing out on setting a new record, Lowry’s achievement adds to the recent trend of players shooting 62s in major championships.
