This initiative follows the establishment of Sierra Space’s Orbital Missions and Services organization, which focuses on providing innovative solutions for national security. So far, the company has secured $1.3 billion in prime contracts for satellite constellations under this program.
Ghost Logistics Spacecraft Testing
Ghost recently underwent a series of rigorous tests, including terminal drops and controlled parachute descents, to evaluate its ability to safely transport payloads back to Earth. During these tests conducted at Space Florida’s Launch and Landing Facility, Ghost demonstrated its resilience and precision in returning items from space to designated landing areas.
Once operational, Ghost spacecraft will be pre-loaded with essential supplies, such as survival kits, rations, and weapons, awaiting instructions to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere. Utilizing advanced thermal protection shields and parafoils, Ghost can withstand extreme temperatures during re-entry and safely guide payloads to their destinations. Each spacecraft is designed to have a lifespan of five years before retirement and deorbiting.
