Solana Network Releases Version 1.17.31 Update to Combat Congestion Issues

Solana developers recently rolled out a crucial update, version 1.17.31, aimed at addressing the congestion troubles that have plagued the blockchain network in recent weeks. In an announcement made on April 15, Solana’s Status shared that the new release is now recommended for general use by MainnetBeta validators. This update comes with enhancements designed to alleviate the ongoing congestion on the Solana Network.

This latest development signifies the first in a series of planned upgrades intended to relieve the network’s congestion problems. In light of recent events, Solana has encountered a spike in transaction failures, largely attributed to the blockchain’s increasing popularity and heightened network activity, fueled by automated bots on the lookout for arbitrage opportunities.

Anza, a Solana-focused devshop, highlighted that the version 1.17.31 update comes with improvements geared towards alleviating the ongoing network congestion. Moreover, Anza indicated that further enhancements are in the pipeline for version 1.18. It’s worth noting that validators are advised to update to the latest patch only when the network’s delinquent stake is below 5%.

An image shared by Rex St John, the head of developer relations at Anza, revealed some of the key network enhancements introduced in version 1.17.31. These include improved visibility into staked versus non-staked packets, refined treatment of super low staked nodes in streamer QOS, and enhanced minimal streams per 100 ms for staked nodes.

SOL Token Surges by 10%

Following the announcement of the upgrade, Solana’s native SOL token witnessed a noteworthy surge, climbing by 10% in the early trading hours. Data from CryptoSlate indicates that the digital asset saw its price spike to $156 before experiencing a slight correction to $152 at the time of reporting. This turnaround marks a significant rebound for SOL, which had plummeted to around $120 over the weekend amidst a broader market downturn.

Overall, the release of the version 1.17.31 update represents a crucial milestone in Solana’s efforts to address the congestion issues on its network. With further enhancements on the horizon, stakeholders are eagerly anticipating the network’s continued evolution and improved performance in the days ahead.
