Solana Chapter 2: Cat-Themed Token Airdrops Enhance Buyer Experience

Customers who have pre-ordered the Solana “Chapter 2” smartphone are already reaping the rewards of their purchase ahead of the device’s anticipated release in 2025. This early benefit comes in the form of token airdrops, specifically from the teams behind the Solana meme coins Maneki (MANEKI) and Cat in a Dogs World (MEW).

Those who pre-ordered the Chapter 2 have received airdropped tokens from these meme coins directly into their wallets. The collective value of these tokens has the potential to offset the entire $450 cost of the phone, provided that their market value remains stable.

Token Airdrops Details

On April 1, a total of 37,600 MEW tokens were airdropped to eligible Solana wallets. Following this, on a recent Wednesday, 5,199 MANEKI tokens were distributed to the same group of wallets. The value of MANEKI tokens experienced a significant spike after the airdrop, with the token hitting an all-time high on Thursday, soaring by 71.6% to $0.02.

Conversely, the MEW token achieved its all-time high at $0.009 on March 31, though it has seen a slight decrease of 10.4% since then. As of the latest update, the total value of both meme coins gifted to each buyer is currently valued at $459—exceeding the initially announced price of the device back in January.

Additional Token Rewards

In addition to the MEW and MANEKI tokens, Solana Chapter 2 buyers have also received 114,858,914.9661 Wuffi (WUF) tokens valued at around $24.76, 800,000 iq50 (IQ50) tokens valued at approximately $16.29, and 20 million Catwifhat (CWIF) tokens valued at about $4.96. This additional allocation adds up to around $46, bringing the total value to just over $405.

Background and Context

The introduction of the Saga Chapter 2 phone by Solana Labs in January was a follow-up to the initial success of the Solana Saga. The latter sold out quickly due to the rising value of the associated perks, such as airdrops and complimentary NFTs.

While the recent airdrops for Chapter 2 have a distinct cat theme, it was an earlier dog-themed token that initially drove the popularity of the original Saga phone. BONK, a meme coin with a dog theme, provided 30 million tokens to each Saga buyer. By December, the value of BONK had escalated to the point where the airdrop alone was worth more than the phone itself.

This remarkable sales surge spurred other Solana projects to follow suit and offer free tokens and NFTs to Saga owners. This strategy further fueled interest in Solana Labs’ smartphone endeavors and likely contributed to the heightened demand for the Chapter 2 device.
