Union President Confirms Endorsement of President Biden
President Trump’s attempts to secure the endorsement of the United Steelworkers have been unsuccessful as union president Bruce McCall affirmed that the union will be endorsing President Biden.
During an appearance on Fox News, McCall expressed the union’s clear preference for President Biden, stating, “We’re clearly leaning towards President Biden and we’ll be endorsing him.” He added that the decision would be made by the executive board in the near future.
McCall highlighted President Biden’s focus on developing an industrial policy in the country through initiatives such as the infrastructure bill, IRA, CHIPS, and Science Act. He emphasized the importance of creating a level playing field for American industrial workers to achieve real progress.
When questioned about the delay in endorsing President Biden, McCall explained, “We just haven’t had our board meeting yet.”
Union Support for President Biden
Trump’s efforts to court various unions, including autoworkers, Teamsters, and steelworkers, have not yielded the desired results, with the autoworkers and steelworkers unions opting to endorse President Biden. The Teamsters also indicated their leaning towards endorsing Biden following the presidential conventions.
President Trump’s track record on labor issues has been heavily criticized, leading many to anticipate that major unions would choose to support President Biden, who has been recognized as a pro-labor advocate, reminiscent of some of America’s most labor-friendly presidents.
Labor unions remain steadfast in their support for President Biden, pledging to stand by him and rejecting any potential endorsement of Donald Trump.
