Terrorist Attack at Music Venue in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region

On Friday afternoon, a major music venue in Krasnogorsk, a city in the northwest of the Moscow region, was targeted by terrorists. This incident occurred shortly after the American embassy in Russia issued a warning to its citizens regarding potential attacks at mass events. The attack resulted in the tragic loss of at least 115 Russian lives. According to Sputnik, the assailants, disguised in camouflage, stormed the Crocus City Hall venue and unleashed a barrage of gunfire using automatic weapons. Subsequently, they deployed a grenade or incendiary bomb, igniting a fire within the venue.

In response to the attack, audience members sought refuge on the floor to evade the gunfire. After a span of 15 to 20 minutes, they cautiously made their way towards the exit. Promptly, the Special Rapid Response Unit (SOBR), Special Purpose Mobile Unit (OMON), and firefighters arrived at the scene to manage the situation.

The Claim of Responsibility and Subsequent Developments

Initially, Ukrainian Intelligence attributed the orchestration of the attack to Putin’s Special Forces. However, the Islamic State (ISIS) later claimed responsibility for the heinous act. The ISIS-linked Amaq News Agency circulated a statement asserting the group’s involvement in the attack, targeting a gathering of “Christians.” Reportedly, the toll from the assault amounted to a staggering 60 fatalities.

In the aftermath of the incident, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation, shedding light on the ongoing investigation and the pursued perpetrators. Putin emphasized that the terrorists attempted to flee towards Ukraine, emphasizing the urgency of identifying and bringing them to justice.

President Putin underscored the collaborative effort required from nations sharing Russia’s grievance, urging cooperation in confronting the transnational threat posed by these terrorists devoid of any national allegiance.
