Tesla to Build 200-Charger Super Site in Florida
After Ford’s announcement that it had secured access to Tesla’s Superchargers for its electric vehicle owners, other automakers quickly followed suit. Now, with Tesla’s charging network expansion, the availability of charging stations is set to increase significantly. However, this growth may also lead to longer wait times for drivers seeking to charge their EVs at Supercharger stations. To alleviate this concern, Tesla is constructing a massive 200-charger super site in Florida, as reported by CarBuzz.
Location and Features of the Super Site
The 200-charger super site is set to be built along Interstate 95 near Orlando, specifically in an area known as Yeehaw Junction. The project is expected to be completed in phases, allowing EV owners to access the chargers as they are installed. Additionally, the site will feature eight spots dedicated to EV owners towing trailers.
Charger Generation and Future Developments
It remains unclear which generation of chargers Tesla plans to install at the Florida site. While V4 Superchargers are still relatively uncommon in the U.S., many hope that Tesla will deploy this latest technology at the location. The Florida super site represents just one of several mega-charging projects underway, with similar ventures planned in California, albeit on a smaller scale with 164 chargers.
While Tesla leads the way in constructing large-scale charging stations, other companies such as Shell have also entered the market with their own mega-sites. For example, Shell recently completed a 258-charger facility at the Shenzhen airport. Although most companies are currently focusing on smaller charging locations in the U.S., the success of Tesla’s Yeehaw Junction site could spur the development of additional mega-charging sites nationwide.
