Tom Brady’s Encounter with Crypto Criticism

Star NFL quarterback Tom Brady faced crypto ridicule during a recent three-hour Netflix comedy roast. The event, titled “The Roast of Tom Brady,” is available on the streaming platform and featured numerous jokes about Brady’s involvement in Bitcoin and connections to the bankrupt crypto exchange FTX. Comedian Kevin Hart wasted no time addressing this topic, joking about how Brady owes money to his fans due to his association with Crypto.com’s former rival, FTX.

Comedic Allusions and Crypto Mishaps

Hart’s jokes not only highlighted Brady’s crypto ties but also shed light on his own past crypto mishaps. The comedian recently sold his Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT at an 83% loss and was embroiled in a $7 million class-action lawsuit related to an ICO scam. In contrast, Brady and his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, revealed their equity stake in FTX in 2021, appearing in commercials and events with FTX’s founder, Sam Bankman-Fried.

However, FTX’s subsequent downfall led to controversy as Brady and Bündchen were compensated predominantly in FTT, FTX’s native token, which plummeted before the exchange declared bankruptcy. As a result, they are now facing a class-action lawsuit from FTX investors holding them responsible for promoting the ill-fated exchange, a legal scenario other celebrities like Trevor Lawrence, Tom Nash, and Kevin Paffrath have already settled.

Celebrity Banter and Legal Battles

During the roast, comedian Nikki Glaser added to Brady’s discomfort by mocking his crypto dealings with FTX, questioning how he could fall for such a financial misstep. Glaser even compared Brady’s financial loss to his teammate Rob Gronkowski’s humorous approach to Bitcoin, implying the tight end’s casual attitude towards the cryptocurrency. Gronkowski, who had previously collaborated with Brady on the Autograph NFT platform, became a subject of lighthearted banter amidst the crypto conversation.
