Donald Trump Accepts Debate Invitations Without a Running Mate
Former President Donald Trump has been actively accepting debate invitations, including one for an upcoming Fox News Vice Presidential debate, despite not having selected a running mate.
Trump took to Truth Social to post a statement regarding the future Vice President of the United States, emphasizing that the running mate has not yet been chosen. He announced the acceptance of the Fox Vice Presidential Debate, suggesting it be held at Virginia State University, the first Historically Black College or University to host such an event. Trump also called on Vice President Kamala Harris to agree to the debate, concluding with his well-known slogan – MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
Interestingly, Trump’s actions and words suggest that the identity of his running mate is of little consequence. It appears that Trump perceives the running mate as a mere figurehead, rather than a true partner or decision-maker. The tone set implies that Trump’s running mate will be expected to comply with Trump’s directives without question.
Analysis indicates that Trump’s running mate is anticipated to emulate the behavior of former Vice President Mike Pence, with the exception of Pence’s demonstrated reluctance to infringe upon the Constitution or engage in criminal activities.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris has already agreed to participate in a debate scheduled to be aired on CBS, with potential dates set for either July 23rd or August 13th.
In contrast, the Biden campaign has shown a willingness to avoid further debates with Trump, exhibiting a sense of prudence and strategic restraint even as Trump eagerly agrees to engage in more debates, seemingly for the sake of appearances.
It is evident that Trump’s efforts to secure additional debate opportunities, particularly in the absence of a designated running mate, serve as a testament to his enduring quest for public visibility and political relevance.
