UFC Announces Return to Perth with Multi-Year Partnership

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to make its way back to Perth, Australia for an anticipated pay-per-view event this summer, following the announcement of a multi-year collaboration with the Western Australian Government facilitated through Tourism Western Australia.

UFC 305 is scheduled to take place on August 17, with the local date shifting to August 18, at the RAC Arena. This occasion will mark the third time that the prestigious mixed martial arts promotion will organize an event at this well-regarded venue.

Excitement Surrounding the Event

In a press release, the UFC CEO Dana White expressed his enthusiasm for the return to Perth, stating, “Perth, I am so excited to be coming back! After a record-breaking event in 2023, I can’t wait to bring another massive pay-per-view to Western Australia. Perth is a world-class city with some of the most passionate fight fans I’ve ever seen – UFC 305 is going to be INCREDIBLE!”

The inaugural UFC event in Perth took place in February 2018 with UFC 284 following suit in February 2023, setting the stage for the upcoming UFC 305 extravaganza.

Attendees and Potential Match-Ups

While no specific matchups have been disclosed for UFC 305 at this time, a trio of Australian UFC luminaries made their presence felt at an official unveiling event at the Scrappy MMA gym in Willetton. The impressive lineup included former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, burgeoning welterweight contender Jack Della Maddalena hailing from Perth, and the forthcoming men’s flyweight title challenger Steve Erceg.

Volkanovski, despite facing a recent knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in February, holds a formidable reputation. Della Maddalena boasts an impressive streak of 17 consecutive victories, culminating in a striking finish against Gilbert Burns at UFC 299 earlier this month. Meanwhile, Erceg is diligently preparing for his main event title bout against Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 301 scheduled for May.

Given their stellar track records and the upcoming timeline, all three fighters are strong contenders to feature at the UFC 305 event in August, contingent upon the unfolding events in the ensuing months.

Over the past decade, the UFC has successfully orchestrated 17 live events in Australia since the year 2010, demonstrating the enduring popularity and widespread appeal of the sport within the Australian landscape.
