UFC to Hold Landmark Event in Saudi Arabia

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to make history with its inaugural event in Saudi Arabia on June 22. This event will feature a highly anticipated middleweight bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Robert Whittaker, as confirmed by Dana White, the esteemed president of the promotion.

The fight card for UFC Fight Night in Saudi Arabia is scheduled to be broadcasted for free on ABC, bringing this exciting event to a wide audience of fans around the world.

High-Stakes Showdown for Middleweight Supremacy

The main event between Chimaev and Whittaker holds significant implications, as the victor will earn the right to challenge current middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis for the title. Chimaev, boasting an impressive record of 13-0, last competed in October, defeating former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Despite his aspirations for a title shot at UFC 300 in April, Du Plessis suffered injuries that sidelined his plans. However, he remains optimistic about returning to the octagon by mid-2024.

On the other hand, Whittaker, a former middleweight champion with a record of 26-7, is fresh off a commanding unanimous-decision victory over Paulo Costa in February. This victory marked his comeback fight following a TKO loss to Du Plessis in July 2023. With both fighters hungry for redemption and glory, this clash promises to be an electrifying spectacle.

Additional Fights to Amp Up the Excitement

Aside from the marquee bout, White unveiled four other thrilling matchups set to grace the Saudi Arabia card, including:

  • Sergei Pavlovich vs. Alexander Volkov
  • Kelvin Gastelum vs. Daniel Rodriguez
  • Johnny Walker vs. Volkan Oezdemir
  • Shara Magomedov vs. Ihor Potieria
