Mark Coleman Saves Parents from House Fire

Amidst a harrowing ordeal, UFC Hall of Famer and former champion Mark Coleman found himself in a hero’s role after rescuing his parents from a devastating house fire in Ohio. Coleman, airlifted to a hospital following the incident, expressed profound gratitude and relief as he reunited with his family members from his hospital bed.

A Brave Act of Heroism

Coleman’s daughter, Morgan Coleman, shared details of the dramatic rescue, explaining how her father selflessly ventured into the burning house multiple times to save his mother and father. In an emotional video posted on Mark Coleman’s Instagram account, he reflected on the intense moments, expressing his astonishment and thankfulness that his parents survived the ordeal.

“I swear to God, I’m so lucky,” Coleman exclaimed in the video. “I can’t believe my parents are alive. I had to make a decision. I got out of my room and went to the door, and it was already horrible. I couldn’t breathe. I almost had to go outside, but I went back and got them. I can’t believe it.”

Despite his heroic efforts, Coleman tragically couldn’t rescue the family dog, Hammer, during the chaotic rescue operation. He lamented this loss, highlighting the emotional toll of the event.

A Distinguished Career in Martial Arts

Mark Coleman, hailing from Fremont, Ohio, achieved renown in the world of MMA as the UFC’s inaugural heavyweight champion in 1997, besting Dan Severn for the title. Over his illustrious 14-year career, Coleman secured victory in 16 out of 26 fights, culminating in his induction into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2008.

Prior to his MMA endeavors, Coleman excelled in amateur wrestling, capturing an NCAA championship at Ohio State in 1988 and representing the United States at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

The MMA community rallied behind Coleman and his family in the aftermath of the fire, with his daughters sharing updates on social media platforms. Kenzie Coleman recounted how the family dog, Hammer, played a crucial role in alerting her father to the danger.

To support Mark Coleman during his recovery and help alleviate the financial burdens resulting from the fire, Morgan Coleman initiated a fundraising campaign on gofundme.com, which has garnered significant contributions, surpassing $70,000 by Thursday afternoon.
