Universal’s Highly Anticipated Horror Films Facing Release Delays
Universal Studios has been generating excitement among horror movie enthusiasts with its announcements about a fresh adaptation of The Wolf Man helmed by renowned filmmaker Leigh Whannell. Joining forces after their success with The Invisible Man and Upgrade, the collaboration between Whannell and Universal promised an innovative and gripping take on the classic monster tale that left fans eager for its release.
However, despite initial expectations that the film would hit theaters within the next couple of months, recent developments have revealed a setback in the schedule.
Release Date Postponement
News broke on a late Friday evening that the highly anticipated film had been rescheduled. Originally set for an October 25 premiere, The Wolf Man’s release date has now been pushed back to January 17, 2025. The production of the movie only commenced recently in New Zealand, and the storyline was unveiled just a few days ago. According to the disclosed plot details, Christopher Abbott, portraying the character of Larry Talbot (previously enacted by notable actors such as Lon Chaney Jr. and Benicio del Toro), along with Julia Garner, plays the role of parents whose family finds themselves under threat from a deadly predator. As Larry Talbot transforms into the ominous Wolf Man, the narrative promises to deliver a bone-chilling experience for audiences.
Unforeseen Changes
Surprisingly, The Wolf Man isn’t the only horror film facing adjustments to its release schedule. Universal made the unexpected decision to remove The Woman in the Yard from its slated January 10, 2025 debut, ultimately removing it from the release calendar altogether. While the reasons behind this sudden alteration remain undisclosed, details regarding the film’s storyline are scarce. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (known for his work on Black Adam) and featuring Danielle Deadwyler in the leading role, The Woman in the Yard’s fate remains uncertain.
Despite these setbacks, Universal Studios continues to intrigue audiences with its upcoming horror releases for the year 2024. Alongside “Abigail” on April 19, viewers can anticipate the premiere of the James McAvoy-led remake Speak No Evil on September 13. The year concludes with the unveiling of Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, starring Bill Skårsgard and Lily-Rose Depp, scheduled for a Christmas Day debut.
