Georgia Amoore Enters Transfer Portal

Virginia Tech standout point guard Georgia Amoore has made the decision to enter the transfer portal, as confirmed by the university on Monday. This development follows the departure of head coach Kenny Brooks, who recently accepted the head-coaching position at Kentucky’s women’s basketball program.

As a senior player, Amoore faced a critical choice regarding her future in basketball. The talented athlete had until Monday to weigh her options: declare for the 2024 WNBA draft, where she was anticipated to be a first-round selection, or return for a fifth year utilizing the additional eligibility granted to student-athletes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Standing at 5-foot-6 and hailing from Australia, Amoore played a pivotal role in Virginia Tech’s rise to prominence within the ACC and on the national stage in recent seasons. Throughout her collegiate career, she earned two first-team all-conference honors and boasted averages of 18.8 points and 6.8 assists per game during her senior year, marking personal bests in both categories. Notably, Amoore concludes her time at Virginia Tech as the program’s all-time leader in assists.

Despite Amoore’s standout performances, Virginia Tech faced challenges in the NCAA tournament this year, exiting in the second round without the contributions of Elizabeth Kitley, a three-time ACC player of the year who was sidelined with a left ACL injury. Amoore’s leadership was instrumental in guiding the Hokies to their inaugural Final Four appearance in 2023.

Having established herself as a top-tier player, Amoore is poised to make an immediate impact wherever she chooses to continue her collegiate career. With her exceptional skills and experience, she is widely regarded as the premier athlete in the current transfer portal landscape.
