Walmart
Apple recently discontinued the sale of the M1 MacBook Air in favor of the M2 version. However, Walmart has taken a different approach by announcing that it will continue to carry and sell the M1 Air in select retail locations and online for a reduced price of $699, which is lower than Apple’s previous price of $999. Walmart offers all three color options for the M1 Air but only sells the base configuration with 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage.
Price Comparison
The $699 price tag at Walmart is significantly lower than Apple’s refurbished store price of $759 for the M1 Air. While this may not be the ideal choice for technology enthusiasts, it remains an attractive option for those seeking a budget-friendly entry-level laptop.
Software Support Concerns
One potential drawback of purchasing an M1 Air in 2024 is the uncertainty surrounding future software updates. Apple typically provides updates based on the date of a product’s release, which may mean that an M1 Air could receive fewer years of software support compared to newer models.
While Apple is still supporting older Intel Macs, it’s essential to consider long-term usage plans, such as passing the laptop down to family members or future resale value.
