Warren Sapp Returns to Coaching With Colorado Buffaloes

Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp has made a decision to further his coaching career by taking on a role as a graduate assistant for the Colorado Buffaloes under the leadership of Deion Sanders. This move allows Sapp to have a more hands-on approach in coaching the team on the field while also pursuing additional education through classes he is taking.

During his introduction to the team by Sanders, Sapp expressed his commitment to helping the players reach their full potential. He used the metaphor of “building mansions” to convey his dedication to assisting the athletes in their development. Sapp’s extensive experience in the NFL, where he spent 13 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders, including winning a Super Bowl title in 2002, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Buffaloes.

Having been named the AP defensive player of the year in 1999 and finishing his career with an impressive 96 1/2 sacks, Sapp’s on-field success speaks for itself. His enthusiasm for joining forces with Sanders and the rest of the coaching staff is evident in his eagerness to contribute to the team’s progress towards success.

Speaking highly of Sapp’s background, Sanders highlighted the defensive lineman’s accomplishments, including his prestigious gold jacket recognition and penchant for engaging in friendly banter. The mutual respect and admiration shared between Sanders and Sapp create a positive atmosphere for collaboration within the coaching staff.

Expansion of Coaching Staff

Sanders has been actively restructuring his coaching team following a challenging 4-8 season. By appointing Robert Livingston as the defensive coordinator and enlisting the expertise of Phil Loadholt to bolster the offensive line, Sanders aims to enhance the overall performance of the team. Additionally, the decision to retain Pat Shurmur as the offensive coordinator underscores the continuity and stability in the coaching lineup.

Preparations are underway for the upcoming spring game at Folsom Field on April 27, which will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network. The event will be followed by a concert featuring renowned artist Lil Wayne at the CU Events Center, creating an exciting atmosphere for fans and players alike.

Looking ahead, the Buffaloes are set to transition from the Pac-12 to the Big 12 conference in the upcoming season, marking a significant change for the team as they continue to strive for excellence in their athletic endeavors.
