Entrepreneur Aron D’Souza has announced plans to organize the first-ever Enhanced Games next year, a proposed sporting event aimed at athletes who use performance-enhancing drugs. The concept has sparked controversy, drawing criticism from figures such as World Athletics president Sebastian Coe, who described it as “bollocks,” and the World Anti-Doping Association, which labeled it “dangerous and irresponsible.”
Despite the backlash, some individuals have shown support for the idea. Australian swimmer James Magnussen, a former world champion, expressed interest in participating and even stated that he would be willing to use performance-enhancing substances to compete.
Hollywood actor and Wrexham Football Club owner Rob McElhenney has now revealed his involvement in producing a documentary about the Enhanced Games. In a statement to Variety, McElhenney expressed excitement about partnering with RSA to share the compelling narrative behind the event.
McElhenney emphasized the significance of exploring the Enhanced Games through a thoughtful docu-series lens, highlighting the unique and controversial nature of the competition. The documentary is expected to delve into the motivations behind the Enhanced Games and offer insight into the athletes’ experiences.
The competition is slated to feature 10 athletes in its inaugural edition, but Coe has issued a warning, stating that participants should be prepared for severe penalties, including lengthy bans from competition.
