The White House Initiate a Strike Force Against Corporations Engaging in Illegal Price Hikes
The White House recently announced President Biden’s plan to establish a Strike Force aimed at addressing corporations that unlawfully increase prices on essential goods, including prescription drugs, food, housing, and groceries.
Focusing on Accountability and Fair Pricing
In a fact sheet released by the White House, President Biden’s commitment to holding corporations accountable for unfair and illegal pricing practices was emphasized. The new Strike Force on Unfair and Illegal Pricing, co-chaired by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), is set to intensify efforts in combating anti-competitive, deceptive, and fraudulent behaviors that lead to inflated prices for American consumers.
The collaborative efforts of the DOJ, FTC, and other agencies within the Strike Force will target various sectors, such as prescription drugs, health care, food, groceries, housing, and financial services, where corporations may be engaging in practices that violate the law and contribute to keeping prices artificially high.
Addressing Persistent Price Hikes Post-Pandemic
Despite the end of the pandemic, many corporations have continued to maintain high prices while seeing substantial profits. President Biden has urged these corporations to cease such behaviors, yet their refusal has prompted the administration to step up criminal enforcement through the newly established Strike Force.
