Toronto Blue Jays Pitcher Alek Manoah to Pitch Simulated Game
The Toronto Blue Jays’ right-handed pitcher Alek Manoah is set to throw a three-inning simulated game with catcher Danny Jansen on Tuesday, as confirmed by manager John Schneider before Monday’s game in Houston. This development comes as Manoah continues his recovery process after experiencing shoulder soreness and inflammation during spring training, resulting in his placement on the 15-day injured list.
Updates on Catcher Danny Jansen and Injured Relievers
Additionally, catcher Danny Jansen, who started the season on the 10-day injured list, has resumed swinging activities after sustaining a fractured pisiform during Grapefruit League play. While Jansen progresses in his recovery, he still requires batting practice and exposure to pitching velocity before he can make a return to the Blue Jays’ lineup. These updates were reported by Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.
Manager John Schneider also provided updates on two injured relief pitchers, Erik Swanson and Jordan Romano, both currently on the 15-day injured list. Swanson, recovering from a forearm issue, reported feeling positive after a bullpen session on Monday following a side session on Saturday. On the other hand, Romano is scheduled to return to the mound on Tuesday after engaging in catch sessions in recent days.
Rehab Progress of First Baseman Joey Votto
Lastly, the team received an update on first baseman Joey Votto, who has resumed defensive drills but has not yet commenced swinging activities. Votto continues to recover from an ankle injury sustained in his first spring training game, with progress being monitored closely by the team’s medical staff.
It is expected that the Toronto Blue Jays will face off against the Astros in a three-game series, with the first game airing on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT.
