Jaxson Robinson Announces Transfer Portal Entry

BYU senior Jaxson Robinson, a promising NBA draft hopeful, recently disclosed his decision to enter the transfer portal, as shared with ESPN. This move comes on the heels of his graduation and an earlier announcement of his intention to declare for the NBA draft. Despite prioritizing his draft prospects and the upcoming combine, Robinson seeks to maintain flexibility by exploring potential transfer opportunities.

Robinson cited the coaching transition at BYU as the primary rationale for his portal entry, expressing a desire to acquaint himself with Coach Kevin Young while keeping his recruitment options open. Notwithstanding the strong relationship with former coach Mark Pope, who has since moved to Kentucky, Robinson emphasized the need to assess various programs to ensure the best fit for his future.

Standing at 6-foot-7, Robinson emerged as a standout performer in the Big 12 last season, showcasing his scoring prowess with an average of 14.2 points per game and a respectable 35.4% accuracy from beyond the arc. Garnering accolades such as Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year and All-Big 12 honorable mention, Robinson’s scoring outbursts underscored his potential impact at the collegiate level.

Following previous stints at Texas A&M and Arkansas, where he struggled to find consistency, Robinson found a fitting role at BYU under Coach Pope’s guidance. His sharpshooting abilities and imposing size on the wing contributed to a successful debut season with the Cougars, culminating in a commendable No. 55 ranking in ESPN’s NBA draft projections.

While BYU witnessed several roster changes post-Pope’s departure, with players entering and exiting the transfer portal, Robinson’s decision marks a pivotal moment for the program. Noteworthy is the commitment of key players such as Dallin Hall and Richie Saunders to remain at BYU under Coach Young’s leadership, signaling a mix of continuity and transition within the team.

Looking ahead, Robinson’s exploration of potential transfer destinations adds an intriguing narrative to his basketball journey. As the NBA draft looms large on the horizon, Robinson’s blend of talent, experience, and ambition sets the stage for an exciting chapter in his evolving career trajectory.
