The Revival of the Chevrolet Blazer EV

The Chevrolet Blazer EV has made a triumphant return to the market today, after a hiatus of over three months prompted by a series of software issues. The automaker has not only re-released the electric vehicle but has also implemented significant price reductions. Additionally, Chevrolet has announced that the Blazer EV is now eligible for the full $7,500 IRS clean vehicle tax credit.

Introduction of the Blazer EV

The Blazer EV marked the debut of Chevrolet’s electric vehicle lineup under General Motors’ cutting-edge Ultium battery platform. Unveiled at CES in 2022, the initial deliveries of the Blazer EV commenced in August of the same year. Despite the early launch, only a modest total of 463 Blazer EVs were sold by the end of 2023.

Challenges Faced by the Blazer EV

Upon conducting a test drive in December, Ars encountered several shortcomings with the Blazer EV. The vehicle exhibited considerable Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) on the road, while software glitches plagued the Ultifi infotainment system. Furthermore, reports emerged of charging malfunctions, with one journalist finding themselves stranded on a road trip due to a Blazer EV that refused to charge.

Resurgence of the Blazer EV

Following the temporary halt in sales, the Chevrolet Blazer EV has reemerged with what the company describes as “significant software updates.” These modifications not only address user interface issues but have purportedly rectified the charging-related concerns that marred the vehicle’s reputation.

Besides these technical upgrades, Chevrolet recognized that the original pricing of the Blazer EV deterred potential customers. The initial $44,995 variant was scrapped prior to the launch, leaving the $56,715 all-wheel drive LT as the entry-level model. Notably, the $60,215 all-wheel drive Blazer EV RS surpassed the price of its comparable Cadillac Lyriq counterpart.

Price Adjustments to Attract Buyers

To entice consumers back to the showrooms, Chevrolet has revised the pricing strategy for the Blazer EV. The Blazer EV LT now carries a price tag of $50,195, reflecting a reduction of $6,520 from its original cost. Similarly, the Blazer EV RS has become more accessible, starting at $56,175 following a $5,620 price cut.
