Coachella Music Festival to Introduce Blockchain-Based Game for Attendees

Attendees at this year’s Coachella Music Festival will have the opportunity to engage in a unique blockchain-based experience through a game known as Coachella Quests. Developed by the festival’s Coachella Innovations division in collaboration with Ava Labs, the company behind the Avalanche blockchain, this innovative game offers concertgoers the chance to earn rewards and upgrades by completing various quests both at the event and on the Coachella Discord server.

Earning Exclusive Benefits through Game Participation

Participants who successfully complete quests will accrue “stamps” and points that can be exchanged for exclusive festival benefits and experiences, such as access to the Oasis VIP lounge, unreleased music, and even a rare NFT that includes two guest passes for the 2025 festival. By engaging in this interactive game, attendees not only enhance their festival experience but also provide valuable insights to Coachella organizers regarding their activities and preferences during the event.

According to Coachella Innovation Lead Sam Schoonover, the quests are designed to be related to various aspects of the festival, including partners, artists, and locations, allowing players to earn stamps by successfully completing challenges. These stamps, which are in the form of NFT tokens, serve as a record of the individual’s festival journey while also providing organizers with valuable data insights.

Enhancing the Festival Experience with Blockchain Technology

Coachella is set to launch the Coachella Canvas app, powered by Avalanche, to facilitate the augmented experience at the festival. Attendees can create a Canvas Card, acting as a personal passport to document their experiences at Coachella. Detailed guidelines for quest completion and prize redemption will be made available alongside the festival program at the app’s debut.

Paul Chodirker, Director of Enterprise Business Development at Ava Labs, emphasized that the primary goal of the program is to engage users and elevate their festival experience, rather than simply gather data. The partnership with Ava Labs represents Coachella’s continued foray into Web3 technologies, following previous collaborations in the realm of NFTs and blockchain integration.

Facilitating User Engagement and Participation

With the aim of simplifying the user experience, attendees can seamlessly log in using their email or social media accounts. Upon completing quests, stamps automatically populate their Canvas Card, transforming it into a dynamic NFT that evolves as users accomplish various tasks throughout the festival.

Although the robust blockchain infrastructure is crucial for the seamless operation of the game, Schoonover highlighted that attendees’ focus remains on the interactive experience rather than the underlying technology. The use of NFTs allows for enhanced privacy protection while enabling organizers to gather valuable insights into attendees’ preferences and behaviors.

Ensuring Seamless Connectivity and Accessibility

To ensure optimal accessibility and connectivity at the festival, Ava Labs will establish an activation hub for the Coachella Quest program, providing support for setup and guidance to participants. Given the inherent challenges of connectivity at large-scale outdoor events, the Avalanche hub aims to attract visitors seeking improved Wi-Fi services, thereby introducing them to the innovative blockchain project.

As Chodirker affirmed, the technical team is working tirelessly to guarantee a smooth and uninterrupted experience for all attendees. By integrating blockchain technology with the Coachella experience, organizers aim to offer a novel and engaging journey for festival participants without imposing monetary barriers.
