Deadpool & Wolverine: A Marvel Cinematic Universe Entrance

It has long been speculated that the dynamic duo of Deadpool and Wolverine would eventually grace the silver screen together, despite Wolverine’s poignant farewell in Logan. Ryan Reynolds, the charismatic star who portrays Deadpool, almost single-handedly willed the reunion with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into existence. In a recent interview, Reynolds and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shed light on the meticulous process of integrating these beloved characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The Creative Process

Reynolds divulged to Empire Magazine that the concept of a Deadpool & Wolverine collaboration underwent numerous iterations. His initial pitch revolved around a “Rashomon story about Wolverine and Deadpool … told from three completely different perspectives.” However, Feige, who had long contemplated the integration of X-Men and mutants into the MCU, did not resonate with this specific idea. According to Reynolds, despite this initial rejection, his creative ingenuity continued to flourish, as he presented a myriad of concepts and proposals, totaling 25 different pitches.

Reynolds further delved into the exhaustive process of crafting the perfect storyline for Deadpool & Wolverine. He revealed, “I went back to the drawing board, and I wrote up about 18 different treatments … Some of them almost like a Sundance film, a budget of under $10 million, sort of using the IP in a way that they previously hadn’t used, and I pitched bigger movies, and I pitched things in-between.” From the glimpses offered in the trailers, it is evident that Deadpool & Wolverine will stand as a formidable entry in the MCU. Reynolds, known for his unpredictability and penchant for surprising audiences, is sure to deliver a cinematic experience that defies expectations.
