Former Ivy League Player Kaitlyn Chen Commits to UConn
Former Ivy League Player of the Year Kaitlyn Chen has recently made a significant decision to transfer to the University of Connecticut (UConn) from Princeton. In an announcement made on social media, Chen expressed her commitment to joining the UConn women’s basketball team. Chen, a standout player under former UConn player Carla Berube at Princeton, received first-team all-Ivy honors in 2023 and 2024. Despite facing the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the cancellation of her freshman season in 2020-21, Chen excelled on the court and has now set her sights on making an impact at UConn.
Impressive Stats and Accomplishments
The 5-foot-9 guard hailing from San Marino, California, showcased her skills by averaging 15.8 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game during the previous season. Her stellar performance earned her recognition as a WBCA honorable mention All-American. In her standout Ivy League Player of the Year campaign, Chen averaged 16.2 points per game, demonstrating her consistency and versatility on the court. Notably, she played an instrumental role in leading Princeton to three Ivy League tournament championships, where she was named Most Outstanding Player each time, and helped the team secure three appearances in the NCAA tournament. Princeton’s dominance in the Ivy League, with six consecutive seasons of at least a share of the conference crown, reflects Chen’s contributions to the program’s success.
Valuable Addition to UConn’s Roster
Chen’s decision to join UConn comes at a crucial time for the Huskies, who are looking to maintain their competitiveness following the departure of Nika Muhl to the WNBA. With a strong backcourt that includes standout players such as 2021 national player of the year Paige Bueckers, rising sophomore KK Arnold, and highly touted recruit Azzi Fudd, Chen’s arrival adds depth and talent to the team’s lineup. Her experience, leadership, and proven track record of success make her a valuable asset to UConn as they continue to pursue excellence in women’s college basketball.
