Georgia Running Back Trevor Etienne Arrested on DUI Charges

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne was arrested early Sunday on charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, and two other misdemeanors, as per online records. Etienne, a transfer from Florida and the younger brother of Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, was booked at 4:35 a.m. Sunday in the Athens-Clarke Jail. He was released about an hour later after posting bond.

The 20-year-old is facing charges of DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane/improper driving on the road, and affixing materials that reduce visibility of windows/windshield. Etienne’s DUI charge is classified as “less safe,” which in Georgia means he can be convicted even if his blood alcohol level is less than .08.

Etienne has been projected as Georgia’s top running back following his transfer from Florida, where he rushed for 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns on 249 carries in two seasons. He was also recognized as an ESPN top-200 recruit in the 2022 class.

“We are aware of the charges and are currently in the process of gathering additional information,” said Steven Drummond, Georgia’s executive associate athletic director for strategic communications. “This is a pending legal matter, and we will not have further comment at this time.”

Despite the legal issues, Etienne has been actively participating in spring practices with Georgia.

Georgia has unfortunately experienced a series of driving-related incidents involving players in and around Athens. In January 2023, a tragic incident occurred where a recruiting staff member and a player were killed in a car racing accident involving star defensive lineman Jalen Carter. Both vehicles were traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.
