Border Crisis Denial
During an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Democrat Senator Tim Kaine discussed the border crisis with host Shannon Bream. The conversation centered around a disturbing video showing individuals breaching the concertina wire and overwhelming Texas National Guard members in El Paso.
Senator’s Response
When asked if he considered the incident an invasion, Kaine refrained from using that term. He characterized the situation as an immigration crisis and highlighted the national security implications. Kaine cautioned against sensational language, citing past tragedies that resulted from extreme rhetoric.
In regards to the shocking video of military-age males overwhelming the Texas National Guard, Kaine explicitly stated, “I don’t think it’s an invasion. It is an immigration crisis. It’s a national security issue but I think you’ve got to be careful throwing around words like invasion. It was that kind of wording that led the deranged guy to go shoot up the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh killing folks a couple of years ago, and I think that kind of rhetoric is irresponsible.”
Border Invasion Debate
Contrary to calling it an invasion, Senator Kaine placed emphasis on the importance of language and its potential consequences. The influx of an estimated 11 to 12 million illegal aliens since January 2021 prompted comparisons to the populations of multiple states, highlighting the magnitude of the issue.
Previous data indicates a significant surge in encounters with illegal aliens at the southern border, emphasizing the severity of the ongoing crisis. Despite Texas’ efforts to fortify the border, the challenge persists, underscored by instances of mass crossings and alarming footage capturing the reality of the situation.
Even amidst the Biden administration’s challenges to Texas’ border security initiatives, progress has been made in containing the crisis. The denial of the open border as an invasion by certain factions is deemed misleading, given the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
