House Set to Deliver Articles of Impeachment Against DHS Chief Alejandro Mayorkas to Senate

House Speaker Mike Johnson informed Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer that the House will transmit the articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate on April 10.

Speaker Johnson, along with the 11 House impeachment managers, penned a letter to Senator Schumer, emphasizing the forthcoming delivery of Secretary Mayorkas’ impeachment articles and urging a full trial to be conducted.

Furthermore, Speaker Johnson underscored the necessity of accountability for the American people in this matter.

Resolution Accuses Mayorkas of High Crimes and Misdemeanors

Following demands from the American populace for Congressional action, resolution H. Res. 863 was introduced, levying charges against Secretary Mayorkas for alleged high crimes and misdemeanors. These accusations laid the foundation for a fraught House vote.

Contained within the resolution were two articles that accused Mayorkas of a “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” with regards to border policy enforcement, as well as a “breach of public trust.”

Notably, last month saw Alejandro Mayorkas become the subject of impeachment proceedings in the House, culminating in a narrow vote of 214 to 213 in favor of impeachment. This historic event marked Mayorkas as the first cabinet secretary to face impeachment in almost 150 years.

Amidst the backdrop of over 11 million illegal entries into the US, predominantly comprising military-age males, under President Joe Biden’s lenient border policies, Mayorkas found himself embroiled in controversy. Despite overseeing this influx, Mayorkas shifted the blame to Climate Change as a contributing factor to the surge in illegal crossings.

Mayorkas’ Alleged Negligence in Border Protection

In a stark departure from maintaining the integrity of the US border and instructing border agents to impede the flow of illegal immigrants, Mayorkas allegedly devoted his attention to instructing agents on displaying ‘respect’ towards border crossers and inquiring about their preferred pronouns.
