Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow returns to practice after wrist injury

On a typical Tuesday that seemed like any other offseason workout for the Cincinnati Bengals and quarterback Joe Burrow, there was something extraordinary happening. Burrow, who had been sidelined with a season-ending wrist injury in November, was back on the field participating in his first outdoor team practice since the injury.

Burrow’s road to recovery from surgery has been challenging, but he remains optimistic about his progress. “This was a difficult injury,” Burrow acknowledged. “It’s been a tough several months, but physically it’s not the worst injury that I’ve had. I’ve been through much tougher things physically.”

Having previously torn multiple ligaments in his left knee during his rookie season in 2020, Burrow understands the importance of patience and perseverance in rehabilitation. Reflecting on his knee injury, he mentioned, “It took about a year to feel normal again. I imagine the wrist injury will have a similar recovery timeline.”

Despite facing some uncertainty at the start of his recovery journey, Burrow expressed gratitude for the support and guidance of the Bengals’ training staff. He credited them for helping him regain motion in his wrist and facilitating a successful rehabilitation process.

During Tuesday’s practice session, Burrow showcased his throwing skills alongside teammates, demonstrating continued velocity and accuracy despite his recent surgery. Wide receiver Trenton Irwin praised Burrow’s performance, noting that the quarterback’s throws felt strong and consistent.

As Burrow looks ahead to the upcoming season, he is focused on preparing for a potential return to full contact activities. While he refrained from discussing any lingering discomfort or pain, he remains optimistic about his progress and eager to resume playing football.

With a lucrative five-year contract extension under his belt and a resilient mindset, Burrow is determined to overcome all obstacles and lead the Bengals to success in the upcoming season. Despite the challenges he has faced, he remains confident in his ability to perform at the highest level and is committed to making a strong comeback.
