Kevin Noki and the Brewintosh Project

Kevin Noki embarked on an ambitious journey to recreate a functioning Macintosh Plus, complete with an auto-ejecting disk drive and working components. Despite facing challenges with a broken Mac Plus from eBay, Noki chose a unique path to achieve his goal.

Noki’s creation, the Brewintosh, showcases a 47-minute journey that combines modern maker technology and intricate detail. The project involves 3D printing, custom board-building, circuit design, and internal space configuration, highlighting Noki’s dedication and craftsmanship.

The Design Process

The initial design phase for the Brewintosh involved meticulous planning and intricate measurements to replicate the Macintosh Plus accurately. Noki utilized AutoDesk Fusion 360 to model the components before proceeding with 3D printing, assembly, and finishing touches.

With attention to detail and precision, Noki crafted the case parts, applied plastic filler, sanded the surfaces, and painted the exterior to match the original Macintosh’s color and texture. Each step in the design process required patience and skill to achieve the desired outcome.

Building Components and Technology Integration

From modifying screen components to rewiring power supplies, Noki’s Brewintosh project encompasses a wide array of technical tasks. The creation of a custom board for serial and ADB input conversion to USB is highlighted as a standalone project within the larger endeavor.

Integrating an internal speaker, USB floppy drive reader, and ADB peripheral board underscores Noki’s proficiency in electronic engineering and innovative problem-solving. The meticulous attention to detail and hands-on approach define the Brewintosh as a remarkable feat of creativity and technical expertise.
