Liverpool’s Late Penalty Saves Draw Against Manchester United
In a thrilling match at Old Trafford, Mohamed Salah rescued a point for Liverpool with an 84th-minute penalty, securing a 2-2 draw against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday. The title contenders found themselves facing a defeat after Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo scored stunning goals to put United ahead, following Luis Diaz’s opener for Liverpool.
Dominant First Half by Liverpool
Liverpool put on a commanding first-half performance, registering 15 shots on goal while United failed to produce any. Diaz capitalized on a corner routine in the 23rd minute, latching onto a header from Darwin Nunez to give Liverpool the lead. Dominik Szoboszlai and Salah had chances to extend the lead, but Liverpool went into halftime with just a one-goal advantage.
Fernandes and Mainoo’s Brilliance
United struck back in the second half, with Fernandes capitalizing on a defensive error from Jarell Quansah to score from just past the halfway line. Mainoo then added another with a superbly executed right-footed shot into the top corner, putting United ahead 2-1.
Salah’s Equalizer
As the clock winded down, Liverpool pushed for an equalizer, and their opportunity came when Aaron Wan-Bissaka brought down Harvey Elliott in the box, leading to a penalty which Salah calmly converted, sending United goalkeeper Andre Onana the wrong way.
With the draw, Liverpool moved level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table and maintained a one-point lead over Manchester City. Despite the late drama, both teams showcased their attacking prowess in an entertaining spectacle.
