Lucy Olsen, No. 3 Scorer in Division I Women’s Basketball, Transfers to Iowa
Lucy Olsen, the third-highest scorer in Division I women’s basketball this past season at Villanova, has announced that she will be transferring to Iowa. Olsen, a 5-foot-9 guard, made the confirmation of her commitment on social media on Wednesday. The senior-to-be has one season of eligibility remaining.
Olsen put up impressive numbers during the previous season, averaging 23.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists for the Wildcats, who finished with a record of 22-13. Unfortunately, Villanova fell short in the championship game of the WBIT to Illinois. Olsen led her team in scoring for all but seven games during the season. She was recognized with the Big East’s most improved player award and was a unanimous selection for the All-Big East first team.
A native of Pennsylvania, Olsen started in all 105 games of her career at Villanova. The team experienced runs to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament during her sophomore year in 2023 and the second round in her freshman year. Olsen was a threat from beyond the arc, making a total of 134 3-pointers for Villanova, 55 of which came during the most recent season.
Olsen’s decision to transfer to Iowa comes at a strategic time. The Hawkeyes, who made appearances in the national championship game in the past two seasons, are set to lose four guards from their current roster. Among the departures are Caitlin Clark, the number one overall pick in the recent WNBA draft, and Kate Martin, who was selected at number 18. Gabbie Marshall and Molly Davis also round out the quartet of guards who will be leaving the team.
