Parisian haute couture house Maison Margiela recently unveiled its groundbreaking MetaTABI Collection, merging the realms of physical and digital fashion. This innovative NFT offering combines token-gated product experiences with the brand’s iconic split-toe shoe, the Tabi. The collaboration with digital fashion house The Fabricant marks a significant milestone in the brand’s foray into the world of Web3.

During a livestream event with Rug Radio creator Stephy Fung, Maison Margiela Chairman Stefano Rosso described the launch of the MetaTABI Collection as “metaphorically, a huge step” for the brand. The decision to use the Tabi shoe as the focal point of this venture holds a special significance, symbolizing Maison Margiela’s unique footprint in the rapidly evolving landscape of Web3.

The MetaTABI Collection comprises two distinct editions: 15 Tier 1 NFTs in white and 1,500 Tier 2 NFTs in black. Tier 2 holders receive a custom leather wallet containing a printed crypto wallet, as detailed by The Fabricant founder Adriana Hoppenbrouwer. Tier 1 holders, on the other hand, are rewarded with a pair of limited edition handmade physical Tabi boots, each featuring a unique hand-painted gold finish crafted exclusively for this collection.
In addition to the physical products, MetaTABI owners gain access to a range of virtual experiences across augmented reality and metaverse platforms such as The Sandbox and Ready Player Me.
