Stan Lee Almost Made a Cameo in Batman Returns
Long before Stan Lee’s iconic cameos in Marvel movies, the legendary comics creator had his sights set on a different franchise. A recent Facebook post from former DC writer, editor, and executive Paul Levitz revealed that at the 1989 premiere of Tim Burton’s Batman, Lee asked Batman co-creator Bob Kane if he could make a cameo in its inevitable sequel.
Famously known for his Marvel appearances, Lee’s interest in a DC movie may seem surprising. However, he eventually lent his voice to DC’s Teen Titans Go! To the Movies in 2018, crossing over to the other comic book giant.
But what if Stan Lee had appeared in Batman Returns? The film introduced iconic characters like Catwoman and the Penguin, offering Lee a range of potential roles. He could have been a sewer-dwelling carny, danced to Siouxsie and the Banshees, or even had his nose bitten off by the Penguin in a memorable scene.
Some fans even believe Lee would have made a better Commissioner Gordon than the actor who portrayed him. His larger-than-life persona would have fit well in Gotham City, a place defined by its eccentric characters.
What Could Have Been
Looking back, it’s clear that Stan Lee’s presence in Batman Returns could have added a unique flair to the film. His energy and creativity might have brought a new dimension to Gotham City, making the movie even more memorable.
