Marvel Comics Celebrates Women’s History Month with “Star Wars” Variant Covers

March is the month dedicated to honoring women’s historical contributions, and Marvel Comics has taken the opportunity to shine a light on some of the iconic female characters from the “Star Wars” universe. These variant covers pay homage to seven legendary heroic women, ranging from deadly assassins to Jedi Knights and key political figures.

Featured Characters

The covers feature portraits of iconic women like Ahsoka Tano, Mon Mothma, and Rey Skywalker. While Princess Leia, the original woman of “Star Wars,” is notably absent, the focus seems to be on highlighting some of the more recent and diverse characters from the franchise.

Here is a brief overview of the sci-fi luminaries showcased in these 2024 variant covers:

  • Ahsoka Tano: Former Jedi Knight and fierce Padawan to Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars. Ahsoka’s popularity has soared, especially after starring in her own live-action series on Disney+.
  • Fennec Shand: Feared assassin and elite mercenary known for her deadly skills in shows like “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.”
  • Mon Mothma: Key founder of the Rebel Alliance, recognized for her leadership in guiding fellow Rebels in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” and recently in “Andor.”
  • Omega: Member of Clone Force 99, armed with her energy bow and carving out a new life in “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” animated series.
  • Rey Skywalker: Powerful Jedi hero from the sequel trilogy, who played a pivotal role in saving the galaxy from the Sith.
  • Rose Tico: Expert Resistance mechanic who faced the galactic civil war in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
  • Tynnra Pamlo: Galactic senator who bravely opposed Emperor Palpatine alongside the Rebel Alliance in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
