Popstar Olivia Rodrigo Partners with Advocacy Groups to Distribute Abortion Pills at Missouri Concert

National Review reported that pop star Olivia Rodrigo collaborated with pro-abortion groups to ensure attendees at her concerts have access to abortion-related information and services, including abortion pills. At a recent concert in St. Louis, the Missouri Abortion Fund set up a booth distributing heart-shaped “abortion forever” stickers and the brand-name drug “Julie,” which contains levonorgestrel, commonly known as the “morning-after pill.”

Backlash and Response

The news sparked significant backlash, leading to a report by Variety that emergency contraceptives, lubricants, and condoms will no longer be distributed at Rodrigo’s concerts. Following the backlash, Rodrigo’s team relayed a message through the National Network of Abortion Funds, stating they no longer preferred the distribution of these items due to the presence of children at the concerts. Consequently, the DC Abortion Fund and other local abortion funds planned to promote themselves using materials like hats, buttons, and stickers at the concerts.

Controversy and Discussion

Live Action reported that while Rodrigo’s team was aware of children attending her concerts, they faced unexpected backlash for distribution decisions. Some advocates argued that minors should have access to such items, while blaming conservative viewpoints for the controversy. It was emphasized that assuming minors are sexually active undermines the significance and risks associated with sexual activities, with concerns raised about the lack of emotional and physical preparedness among minors engaging in such behaviors.

Sexual activities involving minors were seen as highly risky and emotionally challenging instances, leading to societal and personal damages. The focus was shifted towards acknowledging the potential consequences of premature sexual engagements among young individuals, emphasizing the need for proper awareness and guidance instead of promoting risky behaviors without considering the complexities and maturity levels of the individuals involved.
