Colony: Parallel Studios’ New Solana-Based Crypto Game
Ethereum NFT card-battling game Parallel recently launched its open beta, but already the team at Parallel Studios is moving forward with their next crypto game. This new project, Colony, will be built on Solana instead of Ethereum, offering a unique experience within the Parallel universe.
The Concept of Colony
Described as a “survival simulation” game, Colony utilizes generative AI to power autonomous “agents” that players cannot directly control. These agents have their own personalities that evolve over time based on their interactions within the game. Players can give suggestions to their agents, but the agents may not always follow these suggestions, choosing their own objectives and paths instead.
According to the whitepaper released by Parallel Studios, Colony will initially revolve around the existing Parallel Avatar NFTs available on Ethereum. These NFTs will play a central role in the game, with plans to expand and mint more Avatars on Solana through governance proposals voted on by PRIME token holders.
Gameplay and Token Utility
Colony will feature a “breeding” mechanism similar to games like Axie Infinity, allowing players to produce more agents over time. The PRIME token from Ethereum will be utilized in the game as a wrapped token bridged to Solana, offering rewards to players and enabling various in-game activities.
To earn crypto rewards, players will need to own an NFT avatar, with a free-to-play version also available. However, free players will have limitations on earning rewards and transferring items outside of the game. All players will be required to cover the costs of the large language model (LLM) powering the AI during game sessions.
Future Launch Plans
The public alpha version of Colony is expected to launch in Q4 2024 or Q1 2025, with more details and updates likely to come as development progresses. The announcement of Colony has already had a positive impact on the price of PRIME, with the token seeing a 22% surge in the last 24 hours.
As Parallel gains momentum, the excitement around Colony continues to grow, setting the stage for a promising future in the world of blockchain gaming.
