UFC Middleweight Rematch: Brendan Allen vs. Chris Curtis
A rematch in the middleweight division between Brendan Allen and Chris Curtis has been scheduled to serve as the headline bout for an upcoming UFC Fight Night. This highly anticipated matchup comes after Allen’s initial opponent, Marvin Vettori, had to withdraw from the event due to an undisclosed injury. The event is set to take place on April 6 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Following Vettori’s withdrawal, the UFC officially announced Chris Curtis as Allen’s replacement for the main event. This rematch is particularly intriguing as it comes more than two years after the two fighters first met in the octagon. In their previous encounter, Curtis emerged victorious with a second-round technical knockout over Allen during a main card bout at an APEX Fight Night in December 2021. Notably, this defeat marked only the second loss in Allen’s UFC career, with the other loss coming from a second-round TKO by Curtis’s teammate and former champion Sean Strickland in a preceding fight.
Since his loss to Curtis, 28-year-old Brendan Allen has put together an impressive six-fight win streak. Notably, five of these victories came by way of submission, with three of them earning him a Performance of the Night bonus. On the other hand, Chris Curtis, known for his exciting fighting style, has had a mixed run with a record of 3-2 and one no-contest in his six fights post his win over Allen. Curtis is coming off a split decision victory against Marc-André Barriault at UFC 297 in Toronto in January and is aiming to secure back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly two years.
Throughout his winning streak, Allen has climbed the rankings at 185 pounds, currently holding the No. 6 spot among contenders in the division. He was on the verge of breaking into the top five, which was occupied by Vettori at No. 5 before his withdrawal. Meanwhile, Curtis currently sits at No. 14 in the rankings, looking to make a statement by defeating Allen once again and climbing the ladder in the division.
As the main event continues to generate excitement among MMA fans, the complete lineup for the April 6 UFC Fight Night is yet to be finalized.
